UML Practical Guide All you need to know about UML modeling

Once each item is allocated to a package, all of the packages are then arranged and ranked hierarchically in the diagram. A component diagram breaks down a complex system into smaller components, making it easier to visualize. Unlike other UML diagrams, it specifically outlines the relationship between these components. Similar to the Sequence Diagram, the Communication Diagram is also used to model the dynamic behavior of the use case. When compared to the Sequence Diagram, the Communication Diagram is more focused on showing the collaboration of objects rather than the time sequence.

Structural UML Diagrams

UML is not a programming language but there are tools that can be used to generate code in various languages using UML diagrams. UML has a direct relation with object-oriented analysis and design. SmartDraw has an extension to generate UML class diagrams automatically using a GitHub repo or a local repository. Learn more about how to build a class diagram without drawing at all using SmartDraw's Class Diagram Extension. Class diagrams are perhaps one of the most common UML diagrams used and class diagram symbols center around defining attributes of a class.

The reason for this is that it is possible to look at a system from many different viewpoints. A software development will have many stakeholders playing a part. Are you looking for a Free UML tool for learning UML faster, easier and quicker?

What is a Use Case Diagram?

A static object diagram is an instance of a class diagram; it shows a snapshot of the detailed state of a system at a point in time. The difference is that a class diagram represents an abstract model consisting of classes and their relationships. However, an object diagram represents an instance at a particular moment, which is concrete in nature. The use of object diagrams is fairly limited, namely to show examples of data structure. UML has applications beyond software development, such as process flow in manufacturing. It is the building block of all object oriented software systems.

Modeling concepts specified by UML

We use class diagrams to depict the static structure of a system by showing system’s classes, their methods and attributes. Class diagrams also help us identify relationship between different classes or objects. You've got a great idea for a new app or software feature—but first, you need to show your boss or investors what you have in mind. With a unified modeling language (UML) diagram, you can map out complex systems in a visual shorthand that’s easy to follow. UML diagrams give you a framework to document technical details, from object-oriented software to process workflows—and make them easy to understand, even for non-technical audiences.

Ready to collaborate, present, and share

It emphasizes the things that must be present in the system being modeled. Since structure diagrams represent the structure, they are used extensively in documenting the software architecture of software systems. For example, the component diagram describes how a software system is split up into components and shows the dependencies among these components. The types of UML diagrams are class, activity, object, use case, sequence, package, state, component, communication, composite structure, interaction overview, timing, and deployment. This includes components, classes, objects, and how all of these elements connect.

4. Component Diagram

The OMG is best recognized for the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) standards. In these diagrams, classes are depicted as boxes, each containing three compartments for the class name, attributes, and methods. Lines connecting classes illustrate associations, showing relationships such as one-to-one or one-to-many.

Since object diagrams depict behaviour when objects have been instantiated, we are able to study the behaviour of the system at a particular instant. The Object Management Group (OMG) is an association of several companies that controls the open standard UML. The OMG was established to build an open standard that mainly supports the interoperability of object-oriented systems. It is not restricted within the boundaries, but it can also be utilized for modeling the non-software systems.

A component is something required to execute a stereotype function. A component stereotype may consist of executables, documents, database tables, files, or library files. Interaction diagrams, a subset of behavior diagrams, emphasize the flow of control and data among the things in the system being modeled. For example, the sequence diagram shows how objects communicate with each other regarding a sequence of messages. UML or Unified Modeling Language is a modeling technique used to document software. In object-oriented programming (OOP), a class is a blueprint or template for creating objects.

It is a structure diagram which shows architecture of the system as deployment (distribution) of software artifacts to deployment targets. Artifacts represent concrete elements in the physical world that are the result of a development process. It models the run-time configuration in a static view and visualizes the distribution of artifacts in an application. In most cases, it involves modeling the hardware configurations together with the software components that lived on. But, if there is more than one object is involved, a Timing diagram is used to show interactions between objects during that time frame.

In software development, objects can be used to describe, or model, the system being created in terms that are relevant to the domain. Objects also allow the decomposition of complex systems into understandable components that allow one piece to be built at a time. Activity diagrams are graphical representations of workflows of stepwise activities and actions with support for choice, iteration and concurrency. It describes the flow of control of the target system, such as the exploring complex business rules and operations, describing the use case also the business process.

A composite structure is a set of interconnected elements that collaborate at runtime to achieve some purpose. Class diagrams provide a high-level overview of a system’s design, helping to communicate and document the structure of the software. They are a fundamental tool in object-oriented design and play a crucial role in the software development lifecycle. Communication diagrams are similar to sequence diagrams, but the focus is on messages passed between objects. The same information can be represented using a sequence diagram and different objects. Object Diagrams, sometimes referred to as Instance diagrams are very similar to class diagrams.

Add even more interaction to your UML Diagrams by adding reference notes and other key details to elements with custom properties and additional data fields. Collaborate with team members on a shared canvas- add multiple collaborators and create UML diagrams together. Connected shape links to build navigation structures to easily represent how components in a system interact. Aggregation is a specialized form of association that represents a “whole-part” relationship. It denotes a stronger relationship where one class (the whole) contains or is composed of another class (the part). Aggregation is represented by a diamond shape on the side of the whole class.

uml design

The UML stands for Unified modeling language, is a standardized general-purpose visual modeling language in the field of Software Engineering. It is used for specifying, visualizing, constructing, and documenting the primary artifacts of the software system. It helps in designing and characterizing, especially those software systems that incorporate the concept of Object orientation.

Get Rid of Earwigs Earwig Control, Treatment & Info

earwigs in house

Keep earwigs out of your home by sealing up cracks and crevices using caulk. Before you can get rid of earwigs, confirm the insect in your home is an earwig. Earwigs are long, flat, and wriggly little creepy-crawlies with six legs. Some have wings, others do not, but they are most commonly recognized for their menacing-looking cerci or pair of curved pincers emerging from the end of their abdomen.

Why Do We Need Bugs?

earwigs in house

Birds are a natural predator of earwigs and other pests, and they can beautify your yard at the same time. Adding bird baths, birdhouses, or bird feeders will attract nearby birds. Earwigs can be a problem for homeowners inside the home and out. In the garden, an abundance of earwigs can chew up plants and flowers, eat through fruits and vegetables, and generally leave a mess in area you want looking its best. Finding an earwig inside the home can be a problem, so most people don’t want to share their space with other pests. With that, here is how you know you have earwigs and what you can do to keep them out and away from the home.

How to Find Earwigs in Your Garden

So, from homemade bug sprays to a soy sauce trap, check out these 7 quick ways to get rid of earwigs and keep them at bay. The most obvious sign, of course, is actually seeing earwigs in the house. You might spot live ones in damp soil or scurrying around at night along baseboards or in bathrooms (especially if you turn on a light in the dark). Dead earwigs will most likely be found in the basement, a bathroom or in cabinets. You can also use boric acid around wood piles or damp areas of your yard to kill the brown bugs. This is a better solution for your earwig problem rather than killing the stinking bugs.

Where do earwigs lay eggs?

Earwigs can be found in almost any growing zone, although they are more likely to inhabit warm, humid climates. You might have trouble spotting one—not only are they quick movers, they are also nocturnal and tend to hide out during the day when you are tending the garden. They like decaying wood and plant material, and dark, damp spaces.

Tempt them into a soy sauce trap

However, you could find large numbers of them in homes during summer when they are most active. Pincher bugs typically live in moist cracks in the ground, feeding on decaying organic matter. Some species of earwigs are attracted to lights at night and can become a nuisance on porches and patios in the evening during the summer. Then in the morning, they will hide under cushions, flowerpots, and other items left outside. Furthermore, any trees or shrubs that cause damp, shady areas around the house should be trimmed. In order to ensure proper water drainage, check to make sure gutters and downspouts drain away from the home.

Earwigs can be found under piles of lawn debris, mulch or in tree holes. Dobrinska also recommends switching out your outdoor lights for sodium vapor light bulbs, which won't attract earwigs or their favorite foods. If you do find them in your home, there are ways to get rid of earwigs—and methods you can use to make your house inhospitable to these bugs. In just a few steps, you can know what it will take to get rid of earwigs and keep them from coming back. Earwigs live all over the globe with the only exception of Antarctica.

These pests got their names due to the myth of earwigs crawling into people's ears while they are sleeping and laying eggs in the brain. Thankfully this is not true, although there have been cases of earwigs being found in the ear. One of the best methods of earwig control is to prevent any structural entry.

You can also use the earwig spray directly on the bugs if you see them at home. Signs of earwig activity include a disgusting odor and ragged holes on leaf edges. Earwigs generally only come out at night and seek cool, moist environments. They live and feed outside, so they’re less likely to be indoors than most insects. They’re also short-lived indoors, and you might not even realize they exist. Earwigs don’t bite humans and only use their pincers when they feel threatened.

How to Get Rid of Earwigs in the House

The nocturnal pest feasts on things such as mites, dead leaves, insect eggs, and other dead insects. Although not harmful to humans, earwigs feast on plant leaves, rotting vegetation and decaying wood — causing potential damage to your home and yard. Worst of all, earwigs will find a way into your home looking for food and shelter to lay their eggs. That’s why it’s vital that you learn how to get rid of earwigs immediately to avoid a possible infestation.

However, some species produce a foul-smelling liquid as a self-defense mechanism, and their menacing appearance can be alarming to homeowners. In any case, earwigs actually pose a greater threat to garden plants, rather than people. They have elongated, flattened bodies that vary in color from pale brown with dark markings to reddish brown to black. Earwigs have six legs and threadlike antenna that measures about half of their body length.

While an earwig’s presence provides order to their environment, an equal amount of chaos can also follow. These menacing-looking insects don’t have a thing for ears or wigs, but they will certainly go after garden plants. Here are tips for how to identify, prevent, and get rid of earwigs, also known as “pincher bugs,” in the garden. They will likely use effective insecticides like spinosad (e.g., SluggoPlus baits or spinosad sprays).

eames house

The Eames House, Case Study House 8, was one of roughly two-dozen homes built as part of The Case Study House Program. John Entenza, the publisher of Arts & Architecture magazine, spearheaded the program in the mid-1940s, and it continued through the early 1960s. In a challenge to the architectural community, the magazine announced that it would be the client for a series of homes designed to express man's life in the modern world. These houses were to be built and furnished using materials and techniques derived from the experiences of the Second World War.

The Design of the House

I’ve seen photos of the Eames house a million times, but to see it in person was simply fantastic. We offer you extensive information about the history of art, analyses of famous artworks, artist biopics, information on architecture, literature, photography, painting, and drawing. She received her B-tech degree in interior design from the University of Johannesburg in 2018 and has worked at various interior design firms since and had a few of her own freelance interior design clients under her company name binnekant. The Eames House is an almost perfect example of the De Stijl movement that originated outside of Europe. The most obvious characteristics are the versatility and openness of the interior space. After the Eameses passed, the house also remained mostly unchanged and very well preserved throughout the years.

AD Classics: Eames House / Charles and Ray Eames

Charles and Ray Eames were a husband-and-wife design team who became icons of mid-20th-century modern design. Working primarily in the United States, they gained prominence for their contributions across multiple disciplines, including architecture, furniture design, industrial design, film, and exhibitions. Perhaps best known for their innovative furniture pieces, like the Eames Lounge Chair and Molded Plastic Chairs, they also left a lasting impact on architecture, most notably with the Eames House, also known as Case Study House No. 8. Their work is characterized by a playful yet disciplined approach, with a focus on functional design, innovative use of materials, and the importance of user experience.

The Eames House had a large impact on interior design as a concept and is overall very inspirational to architects and interior designers alike. Charles and Ray Eames were pioneers of combining human-centered design with warmth and comfort to create a perfect living and working space for them, their family, and guests. John Entenza had the 5 acre clifftop meadow and decided to sell the Eames’ a plot and also have Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen design him a small home next door.

A Virtual Look Into The Eames Case Study House #8

A mezzanine level was added, making use of a prefabricated spiral stair that was to have been the lower entrance. The 17 foot (5.1 m) tall facade is broken down into a rigidly geometric, almost Mondrianesque composition of brightly colored panels between thin steel columns and braces, painted black. An existing row of eucalyptus trees was preserved along the exposed wall of the house, providing some shading and a visual contrast with the house's bold facade. As for the interior design, the Eameses' collection includes, among others, Isamu Noguchi floor lamps, Japanese kokeshi dolls, Chinese lacquered pillows, a Native American basket full of woven grass stems. The Eames House (also known as Case Study House No. 8) is a landmark of mid-20th century modern architecture located at 203 North Chautauqua Boulevard in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles. It was constructed in 1949, by husband-and-wife design pioneers Charles and Ray Eames, to serve as their home and studio.

eames house

The problem was that to respect the wishes of Charles and Ray Eames, the house could not be sealed off like typical museums. The idea was for living things like plants and flowers to still be very evident in the house and for visitors to use the house as Charles and Ray intended it to be used. This meant that live plants had to be included and windows and doors had to be in working condition. The bedroom has a sliding wood panel in the middle, that when closed, clearly divides the Eames House bedroom into a separate master bedroom and a guest bedroom when needed. The Eames House bedroom overlooks the double-volume living area and acts as a mezzanine level.

The lower level of the house includes a living room with an alcove with a built-in corner sofa, a spiral staircase, a hallway with closets, the kitchen, and utility space. The use of these natural materials is an ode to nature, linking the interior with the exterior and blurring the lines of architecture and nature. The steel frames consist of four-inch I-beams for the walls and further 12-inch-deep web trusses for the structure of the roof. The foundation for the house and the steel frame was completed in a mere 16 hours by a total of five workers, and the rest of the house was finalized within a short eleven months. It was in Venice, Los Angeles where they began The Eames Office in a former garage while working on furniture design for 13 hours a day and seven days a week. Charles Ormond Eames, Jr. and Bernice Alexandra “Ray” Kaiser Eames were industrial designers, graphic designers, artists, and filmmakers.

Eames Foundation

In fact, it has changed little from when Charles was also alive, and even from 1958 when the team consolidated their creative work at the Eames Office located in Venice, California. "All of these things have kind of signaled either a certain kind of middle-classness, white liberal Democrat, to just be frank, or this HENRY — high earner, not rich yet — lifestyle," Guy said. None of the men I talked to could pinpoint exactly why they wanted the chair — it's aspirational, it's nice, it's comfortable, though not as comfortable as the couch or a La-Z-Boy. The Eames chair seems eco-friendly, too — they're not going to be tossing it out in two years. Many of them had gotten the chairs during or after the pandemic, at a moment when a lot of people had money to spend and nowhere to spend it and were spending an extra-large amount of time at home. He compares it to a Rolex or a Porsche, where some people want it because it looks cool or is a status symbol, while others are "purists and absolute nut jobs" who obsess over the details.

Indoor-Outdoor Living Q&A with Joel Contreras Design

There is, however, a corrugated glass screen that conceals the utility area behind the kitchen, where food was prepared in copious amounts by Ray on a regular basis. This was because they loved hosting others but also believed that the mess of daily life should be hidden in some way from your guests to make their experience as pleasurable as possible. They did this by merging the two buildings while still making use of the same amounts of materials, with the addition of a single steel segment.

The Eames’ published their plans for an elevated house, but revised the plans after some of the materials had already arrived on site. Charles then had the additional constraint of using the ordered steel, the resulting house having much thinner steel columns than contemporary steel houses, by Mies van der Rohe and Raphael Soriano. The Eames House is an icon of Los Angeles modern architecture designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1949.

Today, the Eames House functions as a house museum, preserving the everyday workings of the husband-and-wife design team. Founded in 2004 by Charles’s daughter, Lucia Eames, the Eames Foundation makes the residence accessible to visitors, students, and conservators alike. The house is situated on a three-acre site on top of an 150-foot cliff that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The site is a flat parcel on otherwise steep land that creates a retaining wall to the west.

There, as at Eames’ House, the architecture alternated between the role of sculptural object, floating in the landscape, and frame for the view of the landscape itself. Privacy was a third concern, and one that trailed so badly that Johnson ultimately moved from the house in order to live in the guest house—the constant sense of exhibitionism imposed by the glass walls had begun to rattle his nerves. Eames’ film was so successful in setting the tone for the interpretation of the house that it still dominates readings today. Everything about the film conceals the structure, and focuses on the circulating collection of tchotchkes and keepsakes, flashes of detail rather than spatial relations. Perhaps even more significant is the way that the Eames’ exploit the paradoxical capacity of still photography to capture transience. As well as textures, they sought out shadows, the temporary play of light through leaves, and reflections on polished glass.

Unusually for such an avant-garde design, the Eames publicized the house as a thoroughly lived-in, usable, and well-loved home. SAH Archipedia tells the story of the United States through its buildings, landscapes, and cities. This freely available resource empowers the public with authoritative knowledge that deepens their understanding and appreciation of the built environment. The current building was initially designed as the “Bridge House” by Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen. Early sketches were published in the Arts & Architecture magazine in 1945, however war-related shortages delayed construction.

They help visitors to better understand the Eameses’ work via that direct experience that the Eameses felt was so important. Careful arrangements of objects and flowers, whose value is really based upon being part of the collections. The Getty Conservation Institute has started implementing practical but unobstructed ways to conserve the house moving forward. The idea is to keep the house as true as possible to the time when Charles and Ray Eames were occupying it. This means that things like watermarks in corners that result from Charles spritzing his beloved plants with water daily should be left untouched where possible and only finished with invisible UV protectors to extend the materials’ life. Although the house was so easy to erect, and a delight to live in as well as visit, the Ray and Charles’ house is not without its problems.

Books, fabrics, folk art, prisms, shells, rocks and straw baskets….groupings unified by each element’s careful selection and the overall curation. This may be a modern structure, but it is filled with, as one writer intimated, a wonderful Victorian clutter. While these objects have, for the most part, nominal value as individual pieces, they have a huge value as part of the carefully-placed collection.

Principles of Design: Proportion

proportion in design principles

This creates an aesthetically pleasing balance and makes it easier to focus on each individual figure within the painting. Da Vinci also used the linear perspective technique to create a sense of depth and scale. In summary, proportion is the comparison of the relative size of the parts of a whole. The parts could be elements like the eyes or nose and the whole could be a face. Alternatively, the parts could be the subjects or objects within a painting and the whole could be the entire composition of the artwork. Specifically though, proportion is used to determine the ratio between these parts.

Proportion lets artists compare the different elements of a subject or object relative to each other and to the ‘whole’ that is being measured. While consistency and repetition are potent design principles, they also risk visual fatigue. Small doses of variety are helpful to ensure that your customers are not lulled to sleep. Proportion is mostly about scale and size when two elements are compared. For instance, in art and drawing, proportion is important for the elements to look realistic.

Proportion Based on Relationship

Imagine walking into a room where everything feels out of whack – the furniture is too big, the ceiling is too low – it just doesn't feel right. Scale also helps architects create a sense of hierarchy and importance within a space. This Q&A section aims to provide clarity on architectural principles, specifically focusing on the importance of scale and proportion in design.

The 9 Principles of Design and How to Use Them

For example, pairing light and dark colors or combining large and small shapes. This principle ensures that important elements stand out and that the overall design is dynamic and engaging. By effectively using contrast, designers can guide viewers' attention to focal points, improve readability, and make the design more memorable.

Branding 101: The Website as Part of a Visual Identity

This allows the artist to focus attention on certain elements or create movement. Understanding how to use proportion effectively is integral for creating beautiful artworks that draw the viewer’s eye. Variety is a key principle of design that involves incorporating different elements and media to create interest and contrast within a composition. This principle ensures that a design remains engaging and visually stimulating by mixing various shapes, colors, textures, and sizes. Variety can prevent monotony by breaking up uniformity and introducing unexpected, yet harmonious, elements that captivate the viewer's attention.

White space, sometimes called negative space, isn’t necessarily white. Minimalist designs use a lot of white space, while maximalist designs may not use any. This quarterly report template, for example, uses subtle colors and patterns to create repetition without beating the reader over the head with it. Sometimes referred to as dominance, emphasis helps draw the eye to key elements in a design.

B. Golden Ratio and Fibonacci Sequence:

proportion in design principles

For example, a round table can help soften the lines of a square room, while a rectangular table can help elongate a narrow room. Proportion adds order and perspective, creating a relationship between elements. Negative space is a big component in web and graphic design, creating a feeling of minimalism and simplicity. Knowing these concepts will give you an edge, whether you're a graphic designer, an aspiring artist, or a creative enthusiast.

Impact Of Art and Accessories For Proportion

If you apply these principles to a design, the eye will flow through a composition. But the key here is that visual hierarchy helps establish the order of importance in a design. Repetition is one of the easiest design principles to use in your designs. So it’s wise to have a soft touch when  repeating visual elements.

How does emphasis impact proportion in interior design?

Variety can be used to draw the user’s attention to specific elements or areas of the design, and make them stand out. Sufficient contrast between elements, especially text and its background, is vital for creating an accessible design. People with vision impairments can have a difficult time reading text on a screen that is too small or does not have sufficient color contrast.

The principles of design are guidelines that can be used to help move the generalities of landscaping ideas to specifics. It involves seven traits that, when given proper consideration, will allow any design to be unified, cohesive and beautiful. These principles will also affect how the design feels, flows and works. Proportion refers to the size relationship that parts of the design have to each other and to the design as a whole. On a small scale, an example of proportion is the size of a chair’s legs to its back or seat. On a bigger scale, an example of proportion may be the size of a pergola’s posts in relationship to its beam.

By using proportion to create a focal point, you can add interest and depth to an otherwise simple room. If the size of the house is smaller than the size of a human in your design, it can distort the proportion. This makes the design more presentable and the viewer can relate to the image. This also brings us to the last design principle, which is unity. Even though this image has a lot of variety, it has an overall harmonious aspect, creating a sense of unity. Proportion refers to the relative size and scale of elements in the design.

In May 1790, construction began on a new official residence in Manhattan called Government House. The White House and grounds cover just over 18 acres (about 7.3 hectares). Before the construction of the North Portico, most public events were entered from the South Lawn, the grading and planting of which was ordered by Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson also drafted a planting plan for the North Lawn that included large trees that would have mostly obscured the house from Pennsylvania Avenue. During the mid-to-late 19th century a series of ever larger greenhouses were built on the west side of the house, where the current West Wing is located. During this period, the North Lawn was planted with ornate carpet-style flowerbeds.

Hoban’s reconstruction included the addition of east and west terraces on the main building’s flanks; a semicircular south portico and a colonnaded north portico were added in the 1820s. The Neoclassical design of the White House is based primarily on architectural concepts inherited from the Roman architect Vitruvius and the Venetian architect Andrea Palladio. The White House and its landscaped grounds occupy 18 acres (7.2 hectares). Since the administration of George Washington (1789–97), who occupied presidential residences in New York and Philadelphia, every American president has resided at the White House. Originally called the “President’s Palace” on early maps, the building was officially named the Executive Mansion in 1810 in order to avoid connotations of royalty. Although the name “White House” was commonly used from about the same time (because the mansion’s white-gray sandstone contrasted strikingly with the red brick of nearby buildings), it did not become the official name of the building until 1901, when it was adopted by Pres.

Happy Earth Day, America

The mansion quickly became a focal point of the new federal city and was symbolically linked to the United States Capitol by way of Pennsylvania Avenue. Following his inauguration in March 1801, Jefferson became the second president to reside in the executive mansion. In keeping with his ardent republicanism, he opened the house to public visitation each morning, a tradition that was continued (during peacetime) by all his successors.

Bordering the East Colonnade is the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, which was begun by Jacqueline Kennedy but completed after her husband's assassination. The East Wing, which contains additional office space, was added to the White House in 1942. Among its uses, the East Wing has intermittently housed the offices and staff of the first lady and the White House Social Office. Rosalynn Carter, in 1977, was the first to place her personal office in the East Wing and to formally call it the "Office of the First Lady". The East Wing was built during World War II in order to hide the construction of an underground bunker to be used in emergencies.

Nine proposals were submitted for the new presidential residence with the award going to Irish-American architect James Hoban. Capitol and the White House.[17] Hoban was born in Ireland and trained at the Dublin Society of Arts. He emigrated to the U.S. after the American Revolution, first seeking work in Philadelphia and later finding success in South Carolina, where he designed the state capitol in Columbia. During the 19th century the White House became a symbol of American democracy.

He personally drew up landscaping plans and had two earthen mounds installed on the south lawn to remind him of his beloved Virginia Piedmont. Meanwhile, construction continued on the building’s interior, which still lacked ample staircases and suffered from a persistently leaky roof. During Jefferson’s tenure, the White House was elegantly furnished in Louis XVI style (known in America as Federal style). The building’s history begins in 1792, when a public competition was held to choose a design for a presidential residence in the new capital city of Washington.

The White House is the official office and residence of the president of the United States. Michelle Obama planted the White House's first organic garden and installed beehives on the South Lawn of the White House, which will supply organic produce and honey to the First Family and for state dinners and other official gatherings.[99] In 2020, First Lady Melania Trump redesigned the Rose Garden. The Kennedy restoration resulted in a more authentic White House of grander stature, which recalled the French taste of Madison and Monroe.[69] In the Diplomatic Reception Room, Mrs. Kennedy installed an antique "Vue de l'Amérique Nord" wallpaper which Zuber & Cie had designed in 1834. The wallpaper had hung previously on the walls of another mansion until 1961 when that house was demolished for a grocery store.

In Washington, D.C. It is perhaps the most famous and easily recognizable house in the world, serving as both the home and workplace of the president and the headquarters of the president’s principal staff members. The general layout of the White House grounds today is based on the 1935 design by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. of the Olmsted Brothers firm, commissioned by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. During the Kennedy administration, the White House Rose Garden was redesigned by Rachel Lambert Mellon.

The White House is the oldest federal building in the nation’s capital. Because of crowding within the executive mansion itself, President Theodore Roosevelt had all work offices relocated to the newly constructed West Wing in 1901. Eight years later, in 1909, President William Howard Taft expanded the West Wing and created the first Oval Office, which was eventually moved and expanded. In the Executive Residence, the third floor attic was converted to living quarters in 1927 by augmenting the existing hip roof with long shed dormers. A newly constructed East Wing was used as a reception area for social events; Jefferson's colonnades connected the new wings. The East Wing alterations were completed in 1946, creating additional office space.

Emailing the President, your senator, a House representative, or another member of Congress or the government s is an integral part of keeping elected officials informed of our opinions. With today’s ever-increasing dissatisfaction with those who govern, it is essential to understand how to communicate your thoughts, feelings, and ideas to elected officials.

Thomas Jefferson, later the country’s third president (1801–09), using the pseudonymous initials “A.Z.,” was among those who submitted drawings, but Irish American architect James Hoban won the commission (and a $500 prize) with his plan for a Georgian mansion in the Palladian style. The structure was to have three floors and more than 100 rooms and would be built in sandstone imported from quarries along Aquia Creek in Virginia. Labourers, including local enslaved people, were housed in temporary huts built on the north side of the premises. They were joined by skilled stonemasons from Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1793. The residence was designed by Irish-born architect James Hoban in the Neoclassical style.[4] Hoban modeled the building on Leinster House in Dublin, a building which today houses the Oireachtas, the Irish legislature.

In the minds of most Americans, the building was not a “palace” from which the president ruled but merely a temporary office and residence from which he served the people he governed. The White House belonged to the people, not the president, and the president occupied it only for as long as the people allowed him to stay. The idea of a president refusing to leave the White House after losing an election or an impeachment trial was unthinkable. During the credits after everyone leaves, the house's victims emerge from the basement unharmed, including Bones, who discovers that Zee is now dating Skull.

Provoked, she attempted to chase them off as Nebbercracker tries to stop her, only to be knocked out as she stumbled and fell into the unfinished basement with her body accidentally being coated in cement, suffocating her. Nebbercracker then finished the house's construction in Constance's memory, but her vengeful spirit soon merged with it. Over the years, Nebbercracker feigned aggression to protect innocent people from her. Monster House was released theatrically by Sony Pictures Releasing on July 21, 2006.

That night, children in their Halloween costumes are lined up at the site of Mr. Nebbercracker's house where DJ, Chowder and Jenny help him return the toys to their owners. DJ and Chowder then go trick-or-treating which they previously thought they were too old for. When Zee's boyfriend Bones later pays a visit, he recalls the time Nebbercracker stole his kite, as well as relating rumors of him cannibalizing his wife.

Monster House is a 2006 American animated supernatural horror comedy film[3] directed by Gil Kenan in his directorial debut and written by Dan Harmon, Rob Schrab and Pamela Pettler. The plot revolves around a neighborhood being terrorized by a sentient haunted house during Halloween. The film features the voices of Mitchel Musso, Sam Lerner, Spencer Locke, Steve Buscemi, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kevin James, Nick Cannon, Jason Lee, Fred Willard, Jon Heder, Catherine O'Hara, and Kathleen Turner. The trio consults supernatural expert Reginald "Skull" Skulinski, who speculates the house must be a rare type of monster created by the fusion of a human's spirit and a man-made object that can only be unbound when its heart is struck. Ascertaining that the presumably-deceased Nebbercracker is the cause, the trio construct a dummy filled with cough syrup Chowder stole from a pharmacy owned by his father.

After Zee kicks him out, Bones notices his kite in the front door of Nebbercracker's house, tries to retrieve it and is abducted. And Chowder later investigate and learn that the house is possessed by a poltergeist. On Halloween, they save Jennifer "Jenny" Bennett, who is selling candy, from the house. Jenny calls police officers Landers and Lister, but the house stays quiet when the officers arrive and they dismiss the report. That same day, D.J.'s parents leave for a convention, placing him in the care of his teenage babysitter Elizabeth, or Zee. Later, D.J.'s friend, Charles "Chowder" Peterson, loses his basketball on Nebbercracker's lawn; D.J.

The company’s investment partners include Reliance Entertainment, Entertainment One (eOne), Alibaba Pictures and Universal Pictures. "Monster House" may well be the first mainstream animated exploitation movie. I suspect, and hope that "Monster House" will become a Halloween classic, because it's too fun to be forgotten. Pamela Pettler is writing the script based on the comic strip and TV series. The project is not related to Tim Burton's shelved stop-motion feature.

The house breaks free from its foundation and chases the group to a construction site. Nebbercracker attempts to convince the house that it should be destroyed while holding stick of dynamite, but the house refuses. As it tries to eat him, Chowder fights the house off with an excavator, causing it to fall into a pit. DJ is given the dynamite and he and Jenny climb to the top of a tower crane while Chowder distracts the horse. The trio see Horace with his wife Constance's ghost for the last time before she fades away. DJ apologises to him for the loss of his house and wife, but Mr. Nebbercracker thanks DJ and the kids for freeing him and Constance.

That night, DJ receives phone calls from Mr. Nebbercracker's house with no one on the other end. Zee's boyfriend Bones scared DJ from behind while wearing Chowder's Halloween mask & takes it off. After Zee and Bones left downstairs, DJ called Chowder and told him to meet him at the Danger Zone. DJ quietly walked downstairs and went out the back door while Zee and Bones were in the living room.

When he was young, Horace met Constance who was an unwilling member of a circus sideshow and fell in love with her despite her obesity. After helping her escape, she and Horace began building the house. One Halloween day as children tormented her, Constance tried hurting them with an axe, but lost her footing and fell in the basement of the house also wet cement buried her body. Horace finished the house after Constance's death knowing it was what she would have wanted.

Called Customer Service which had THE WORST most insolent attitude I've ever received from any company I've ever engaged. There is a trend toward using native and drought-resistant plants, permaculture techniques and systems that reduce chemical, water and energy use. Kara in customer service was absolutely wonderful.
